Unforeseen timeshare expenses, or special assessment fees, can creep up when you least expect it. Maintenance fees can rise dramatically after random events: such is the case with resorts in Florida and the Carolinas after Hurricane Mathew struck. One resort saw a 17% increase in fees for recovery needs alone.
Recent changes in legislation regarding certain timeshare ownerships are not in the favor of owners. One of those recent changes is the elimination of a “cap” on maintenance fees, which used to limit annual increases in property taxes and in certain common area resorts.
